Further amendment to plans for practice golf course at Glengarry — synthetic greens!

We previously wrote about the application by the owners of the former Glengarry Girl Guide camp to build a practice golf course in North Turramurra close to high quality bushland. Ku-ring-gai Council approved the application subject to some amendments to replace the artificial turf on the putting greens with natural turf and some drainage measures.

We were surprised to be advised that an application for an amendment had been made to install synthetic turf on the greens and part of a fairway. This is puzzling given the council’s ruling that synthetic turf was not to be used. Not only did this raise the issue of synthetic turf being unsuited to the bushland location because of bushfire risk but also the drainage system does not appear to control the runoff from this increase in hard surfaces.

We await the decision by the council planning department.
