We all need to make our views known to the state government about the impact on our suburbs of all the changes in planning rules. One way is writing to your local MP and the Labor government. Another is to attend the rally organised by the new community group Doing Density Better.
Doing Density Better is an alliance of NSW community action groups established as a working group of the Better Planning Network which was formed in response to government planning changes that are overriding local planning controls and producing housing outcomes that are neither affordable nor liveable.
Doing Density Better believes density done well can improve community amenity while also addressing climate change and social and intergenerational equity.
They have developed eight action priorities that focus on the problems that have become apparent since the new housing legislation has been announced such as inadequate community consultation via the imposition of fast-tracked planning policies that ignore basic needs such as infrastructure and amenity. They are demanding that these actions are supported by the state government and all candidates ahead of the 2027 state election.
